editing

The raw montage had no colour correction, stablisiation nor crops. While the theme and goal of our MV is to be decently sporadic, there are still many changes to be finessed, in order for us to reach the look and feel that we are going for.

As stated in earlier posts, we want the quality of the MV to be fairly low - contrasting our main character’s mindset - confused, overrun and chaotic. While this will be done in exporting (by lowering the resolution from 1080p to 720p, possibly even 480p, if necessary), we felt the need to add an overlay throughout the course of the video, visibly pixelating the quality down. On top of this, we added a colour emboss, which sharpened the darkest aspects of the shots, creating a rocky feel that the viewer can almost touch and physically feel the texture of the video.

Pre-set transitions weren’t especially necessary in this MV. The already erratic and tasking jump cuts hold the viewer’s attention profusely - any further transition to each shot might feel overdone. There is a fine line with this, though, as our goal was indeed to make the viewer feel slightly uncomfortable, owing to the sudden cuts between time and location. Hence, to aid this, we decided to distort a couple frames, posterizing them alongside the pixelation. And, in the case of the fish-eye shots, we further enhanced the effect towards the end of the chorus.

In editing we were able to add a lot to the video that would be otherwise lost. We will reach out to some of our target demographic, asking for their opinions of our MV so far, hopefully receiving some critical feedback that we can incorporate further into creating the ideal final cut.
